Wieuca’s sound has always been eclectic, even unfocused. What began in 2012 as an emotional alt-country outfit has gone through iterations of psychedelia, garage punk, shoegaze, southern rock, etc…disparate, but all under the general indie rock umbrella. With Local Celebrity, Wieuca incorporates more hip hop influences, pushing far outside the bounds of rock while retaining its esoteric core: psychedelic homespun recordings, confessional lyrics, and the earnest twang of a long day’s work. This is folk art in a post-J Dilla world.

Local Celebrity marks the departure of longtime bassist and producer Sam Kempe, and welcomes the arrival of Jack Webster (bass) and Andrew Cleveland (sampling and synths) in addition to founding members Robert Smith (everything), Will Ingram (guitar, vox, programming) and Jack O’Reilly (guitar and vox). The EP also features Awful Records staple Faye Webster on vocals. The undeniably lo-fi monolith will be released digitally and on a clear vinyl 7” record via Land of the Freak on February 16th, 2018. Thematically, Local Celebrity tackles identity in flux as we define ourselves relative to those around us. With this new sound and release, Wieuca shows its own identity outside of its friends in the rock world.
